My beautiful new sewing machine uses a lot of top thread for take-up. I have to leave at least 4.5 inches so it won’t pull out and unthread itself on the first stitch. It likes 5.5 inches, but will work if I hold the end of the thread with 4.5. The bobbin thread I can cut as close as I like.
My solution: Make two of everything. That way I just start another seam without first cutting the thread and save tons of thread.
These two beach bags were the last project. I lined one and left the other one unlined. They are huge, but light, and fit the shoulder just right.
