New Dog for Mary

The Ajo dog pound, county or whatever, has found a rescued Pomeranian for Mary. Mary is my 94-year-old friend in Rocky Point, Mexico.
She was in the hospital for a couple of months down there, and her two little baby pups (9 months) were not getting the care they needed. I am not in town very often, but when I was there and went to see the house and animals, their water was scummy and ants were swarming the food dish. Unacceptable. The pups were skinny and the rumor had it that Manny, who was being paid to take care of things, was trying to sell them on the beach to tourists. They were in heat, after Mary had paid Manny to have them ‘fixed’ which he obviously did not do. Anyway, I was going to ‘rescue’ them, so I took them back to Ajo with me for the night on the way back to home here in Phoenix.
Well, they got out and I couldn’t find them. Turns out, the people who found them gave them to the lady at the pound and she put an ad in the Ajo paper with their pictures, so the whole story that I made up for Mom came unraveled and the truth is out!!!!
But we are not telling Mary the true story because she will be heartbroken if she thinks she won’t have them back.
You can have health insurance, compare life insurance,
shop for dog insurance, but you can’t get broken heart insurance. So we are telling Mary that the dogs are with a snowbird back in Minnesota and will be home this Fall.
Meantime, I have a little Pom that looks like Mary’s favorite dog in the world, Zora, who died peacefully in her sleep of old age a year ago or so. When this Fall arrives, Mary will have the new Zora and may not grieve too much for the lost pups.
Tricky, yes, but who says morals are straight forward?
Us ladies and our dogs! What a scene. Here’s Mom and one of her gang.
