New Kitchen Sink

Actually, a new kitchen cabinet… why didn’t I take ‘before’ pics? Well, I guess ‘during’ will have to do. And ‘after’, of course. We are not putting in an exit alarm or anything, it’s a pretty secure neighborhood, but the new kitchen cabinets will be wonderful.
You would not believe the gunk and bug crap/carcasses under that thing. But it’s all pulled out into the carport now, Sweetie-pie has it stripped and sloshed with bleach. He also tore up the old linoleum tiles under the festering mess and bleached the wood floor.
I painted the upper cabinets (the first layer of paint). I’ll put the next coat on tomorrow. The upper cabinets were’nt too bad, but the lower….. PEEEEWW! Did that ever stink when we moved the cabinet out!
Smells a lot better now.

Ajo for a Week

We drank celebratory champagne last night (on the occasion of Darling’s retirement), and I woke up hung over this morning. Can’t remember being hung over in Ajo before. I’m sure in twenty years it’s happened at least once, but can’t remember even one occasion.
We got up and walked the dogs at 5:30 or 6:00 and I felt like I should have an inogen oxygen concentrator, but after beans for breakfast and a cup of tea (and a nap), I felt pretty good.
I don’t know what’s going on, I used to be able to drink a lot bettter than that.

Getting the Yard Ready

We are leaving our yard for ten days in a row. Dave is draining the pond fountains so we don’t get mosquitoes and covering the pond so it will not break up in the direct sun, we got a soaker hose to soak the yard while the trees are being watered by our wonderful children every five days.
This hose is permeable, so the water just beads up on it and soaks the ground under it. We got 50 ft. and will twine it around the grass. When the kids turn on the water for an overnight citrus tree watering, the soaker will be laying in the yard and will work all night.
Shouldn’t be too hard, but we are very grateful for our kids because we love our backyard.

Cooler in Ajo

At least that’s the theory, that it’s cooler in Ajo. In fact the high temperature isn’t but just a little lower than Phoenix, but at night it cools down. It cools WAY down. You wake up in the middle of the night and turn off the swamp cooler, that’s how much it cools down. There’s no urban heat island. In the city you might have access to groups that study Mesothelioma, hundreds of movies in air conditioned splendor on huge screens, Italian ice, malls … you get it, but in the desert it cools off at night.
It’s a trade-off, but we’re going tomorrow to stay longer than we ever have in one whack.
