The business class is great!! I knew it would be, because of who is teaching it. One added bonus, we don’t need the text, so I turned my book in for a full $200.00 refund! Wow! But at any rate, there are a lot of textx that I turn in at the end of the term for a partial refund. Then they sell textbooks to students in that same class next term.
In my ceramics arts daily email, there is an article about putting slip inlay into carved bisque and scraping it off and then firing again? I don’t think that’s possible, but I forwarded it to my ceramics teacher, so I’ll soon know.

Our company flies back to wintry Minnesota today. Bye Bye! We sure enjoyed you.
We had a great visit, they all went to Ajo yesterday and hiked in the hills south of there. They came back with some wonderful rocks. I want to say they were from feldspar veins (?) but don’t know how accurate that is.
My friends had forgotten how dry it is and her comment was that you sure do need a good anti wrinkle cream here in Arizona. And Ain’t that the truth!

It was nice to be back at ceramics today, next is printmaking, which I cannot wait to get back to, also.
Being busy this spring break week has made some of my clothes fit looser, I guess busyness is one of the best diet supplements around.
It’s nice to get back to school if only to get some rest.
Today I pulled a real dumb move in pottery. I had a bone-dry bowl from a week ago and had applied colored slip in the circular pattern (Joe-Ann’s pattern), so I didn’t notice that it wasn’t bisque-fired and went ahead and glazed it. When I wiped off the bottom, the sponge came away with clay on it and I realized my error.
The teacher said it will fire okay with the glaze on, but to put it right on in the cone 5 kiln and fire it high as soon as possible, because the glaze will be powdery on it.
so we’ll see how that works.

Better than Coffee
The most visible tribute to Sherry Adams as an effective teacher can be found in every 200-level class she teaches: Right there in the seats. There are always students there from her lower-level classes who will seek out more learning from Sherry Adams. Her classes fill up quickly with serious students. If there was such a category in the Best Teacher Olympics, Sherry Adams would be my nominee for the most profound awakening agent.
Thank you, Mrs. Adams.
Sherry Adams first opened my eyes to the world in a beginning Humanities class that, quite honestly, I was taking for the Honors paycheck. Up to that point I had been taking digital art and web design so I could have a paying hobby in my retirement, my goal was to get back to earning a wage as quickly and as mindlessly as I could. Figuratively, up to that time, I was just shuffling along a familiar path in the dark, eyes on my feet, half asleep. Then Sherry Adams lit a lantern in my heart and her support of my ideas and the knowledge she pushes me to gain lights my path clearly and shows me which way I must go. I really can’t thank her enough.
Sherry Adams teaches by increments: The curtains are pulled opened, layer by layer, upon the big understanding that she is teaching. By the end of a semester, her student has been led past the curtains to open windows and on through into a global landscape where understanding oneself is a by-product of learning how to understand the world.
Sherry uses the world to teach the world. She exposes the student to great reporters and investigative journalists through reading, personal journals, and presentations. She introduces her students to the writer in person by having her students attend a live speech by the author whenever possible. This creates in the student a deep understanding of the subject and a curiosity to learn more.
The warmth and encouragement Sherry Adams brings to her relationship with each individual student is inspiring, and she teaches that the impossible dream just isn’t; it’s always possible to understand how one might make a difference. Sherry Adams respects me and challenges my intellect and directs me toward reaching and developing my potential in ways I could not have predicted before I met her. She gives me confidence that I can achieve my international goals in our rapidly shrinking world.
Thank you again, Sherry.
Her team building assignments have given me confidence that I can depend on myself to communicate my ideas within a group and that my ideas are valid. I also learned that I can be an effective group leader. Through Sherry’s guidance, I discovered that my ideas can influence people and affect the direction of the group.
By the end of a term with Sherry Adams, her students are left with the impression that our eyes have seen farther out into that global landscape, and as individuals and also as a group, we know we can make a difference in our own way for the world.
In that, too, Sherry Adams supports us.
She doesn’t for even a minute think I can’t do anything I intend to do. Not for one minute. She gives her students the tools they need to be effective in the global landscape, and the confidence to step through that window and achieve.
Thank you, Sherry Adams.

My friend who has all the little (I mean Little!) dogs is looking for a home for Crystal, the white Maltese.
Peanut would love to have a somebody smaller than him. Chrissie has skipped her last heat and is ready to breed again. If she was mine, I’d give her all kinds of pregnancy vitamins and breed her to Peanut. Oh those pups would be cute!
Chrissie is one of my favorite dogs and if I didn’t already have FIVE (!) dogs, I would take her in a heartbeat.
But I already have five dogs, and that’s probably enough.
I hope she finds the right home, she’s a sweetie. (I am still kind of working on the Mr., hoping for a sixth dog. Man, am I ever crazy.)

I’m going to make carrot cake, a HUGE batch!! The house will smell so good.
Rom and Megan are going to stay with us a few days. They should be here this afternoon. I’m stoked.
They couldn’t have picked a better time to get here, it’s warm, in the eighties, and so slushy and cold in Minnesota, where they are coming from.
Take off that parka, guys, you’re in Arizona now!

I miss the internet at home, I might have to break down and buy some. What? I am telling the world that I ‘harvest’ signal? Maybe ‘Glean’ is the right term, since the signal I am picking up is just left out in the field, so to speak, by the houses that have unsecured signal.
So the way it is now, every time I want the internet I have to go to school. I really miss it.
In other news, my speech in communication is great, can’t wait to give it next week.
And last news of the day……
The dogs are fine, Peanut and Fae went with me last Thursday when I went to Ajo to listen to a presentation at the Curley school. It was on the subject of the GED classes and what a life-changing and life-shaping thing that is!!! Their money just got cut in half and I am hoping I can find a grant for them.
Wish me luck!

Somehow I got roped into walking for the cure next month. Actually, I am honored to be asked, but feel a little curmudgeon-ly about joining ANYTHING. But like I said, I am honored to be included. Our team is the Artist Against Cancer (isn’t everybody against cancer?) but we’re artists. Well I’m not really an artist, I’m more of a craftsman, but a lot of the people on this team are really fine artists and I am honored to have been asked. We will walk for 12 hours, which might be as good a weight reducer as Fastin.

It’s going to be nice the rest of the week. I sure miss the sun, but of course, here in the desert, rain is always welcome.
I’d like to find a job, looking at sales jobs, hoping it will stay dry long enough to get one.
I hate going out in the rain. It messes with my hair and my shoes.
What in the heck would I do in Seattle?

Spring Break is almost upon me and we have company coming. Some friends who have to do the snowbird thing because they moved away. We are always happy to see them. I will have the house cleaned by the time they get here (hopefully).
I did not sleep well last night, and now look like I need an www.undereyecream.net. Don’t know if I was just keyed up for the company or what.

Working up a sweat in the house. Stuck inside due to all the rain, there’s not much else I can do. The sun is out today, We went for a walk with the dogs up the mountain, it helps my poor sore joints almost as much as msm glucosamine cream.
The dogs acted like they’d been confined for weeks, instead of a couple of days. They frolicked like pups! Even Annie was running wild.

Is there a best way to remove blackheads? I guess if you go to this link you’ll find out.
When we got to Ajo this time the front door had blown open again. We have a steel security door, but still. So we know that we have to replace that soonest.
I want a fancy one. We saw some nice ones for really good prices at Stardust Recycled building parts the other day. When we want to install one that ‘s where we’ll go.

The bathroom is all put together and ready to tape, texture and paint. I’m pretty excited. After we do that we can put down a floor. We still need a medicine cabinet and need to mount the other big mirror.
The rain on the roof was as good as a sleeping pill. The exercise is as good as a diet pill and if I gave out diet pill reviews, exercise would probably be on that list.
It was warm enough to not have to use the heater, but the front door has got to go!

The herd of javelina is down to just a few tracks and a smallish pile of scat at the nesting culvert. I hope they didn’t drown. We were in Ajo this weekend and I left them a picnic of leftover bread, grapes, banana, bean dip. Quite the feast for a pig. Good diet to prevent eczema.
Dave cut the baseboard trim, but I didn’t paint it yet. It was raining outside and I didn’t feel like painting it indoors. So next time it will get painted.

So tomorrow we leave early for Ajo and the dogs will get at least two good runs: One on the way and one at the actual Ajo Airport in the desert. Lucky dogs.
I would like to stay in town for at least ONE weekend this month, a friend of mine is visiting her mom for a month and I want to visit with her.
She is applying for social security disability and trying to get into a medical study at Good Sam, so she might stay in town longer, but probably not.
We had her over for a night last week when she first came. She moved to Texas last year and it about broke my heart.
So nice to see her again.

We haven’t taken the dogs for a walk for 3 mornings in a row… Poor babies!
It’s just that we are SOOO busy. One morning I went into school real early to prep for a morning class and pretty up a paper that was due. Another morning, my sweetie had to take Bertha the truck to Discount Tires to show them the damage caused by the blowout of the Michelin tires (two so far, but that’s another story). Discount Tires is going to file a suit for us. Needless to say we aren’t replacing those tires with Michelins.

Going to Ajo again this Friday. Maybe Mom will be there.
When is Mother’s Day, anyway? I feel like I should already be shopping for a mothers day gift.
We haven’t been to Ajo for 3 weeks now. School all fell down on me and I needed the whole week-end to catch up twice in a row. But I’m good now.

I haven’t had any connections to ‘scoop up’ for my very own use for over a week now. Both of us are twitching. I think we’re on the brink of buying our very own.
And I’m behind on my homework. And somehow, I lost my flash drive. The one with everything on it. Everything.
I bought a new one today and put the current paper on it. A flash drive is actually a useful tool, like spring plungers, hammers, screwdrivers, wires… internet signals.
I miss my signal.
