We’re Excited

We get to spend several days in Ajo. We think we might go to the desert to-do. There’s a group we’ve been invited to that holds a big bonfire, live music and (I’m assuming) a pit roasted turkey. We bring side dishes.
the quilting club will be there and I am anxious to hook up with those ladies. they do all kinds of quilting for charities. business gifts and raffles, and all sorts of things. Thing is, I’ve seen some of their quilts and I am impressed. I want to work with these ladies very much.
So I am eager for tomorrow. We leave in the morning.
I’ll bring back pics.

Australia

I just finished researching my speech for International Business class. Actually, one-half of my speech, the Australia half. Honduras is already mostly done, as I gave a couple of papers and speeches on Honduras in past terms. I’ll need to cut excerpts and add some INT BUS topics. Probably tomorrow.
In short, going to Australia, you might get by without insurance, but going to Honduras, you better look into short term health insurance NC
Australia looks like a much funner place.
But Honduras needs help more, so …

There is no label because I wasn’t well-prepared when I went to the UPS store. Not because I needed fitness equipment, but because the label and logo, etc was still in .ai form.
Why am I such a slacker? I didn’t even look at them to make sure they were pdf or gif, or some such.
UPS is the best place to print because they are about half the price of anywhere else and they let you pick you own file out of your own flash drive, or even email.
I really like UPS for printing.

Oh Wow, look at this. Here is a set of pics that very nearly looks like paradise to my eyes.
Speaking of finding your dream home, Sweetie and I are planning our next trip to Ajo, AZ, our jumping-off platform for when we go looking for our little paradise.
We took the drawers home and thought we were going to get them re-finished and returned to Ajo at Thanksgiving. Well, that’s probably not going to happen. Besides, we need to pull the kitchen counter off and clean behind and repair some water-sogged drywall.
How did we get so busy?

Thanksgiving in Ajo, Soon

Mom just informed me that she’d be more comfortable staying over at our house than in her own with the renter there. He shows up every November 1st or so and stays until May-something. He’s a real great guy, and this has been going on for, like, over ten years. But she doesn’t think she would be comfortable, and she’s not sure his ancient Chocolate Lab would get along with her Chihuahuas, and we know that my dogs get along just fine with hers, so OK, that’s fine, we’d love to have her.
I told her she’d have to sleep on the blow-up queen mattress in the other bedroom. It’s the least civilized bedroom, only because the linoleum tiles are half up and half down, and sticky in places. But we have a big blue rug we can throw down and a couple of little rugs, and she should be comfy.
So we are starting to make the list for the trip down. Home Depot, of course, will provide the bulk of our truckload, but then there’s the extra bed, bedding and rugs. I want to take the sewing machine and make drapes for the bedrooms, and sheers for the living room.
The list is getting long already, this far in advance. But we are going to have a great time. I think we will take a humongous pan of berry cobbler, or apple, or cherry … to the VFW hall for Thanksgiving. They are having the turkey and dressing and we are supposed to each bring a side dish.
So put one of those big aluminum pans on my list, and fruit filling.

Dog Biscuits

Dog Treats

Dog Treats

The first batch of really crunchy dog cookies is done!
It took days of drying in the sun after a brief bake in the oven.
Before dog owners worldwide start looking at a diet pill review magazine for their snack-happy dog (and these are proven to be very tasty), there are a couple of bugs I need to work out.
I need a cookie press that holds production amounts of ‘cookie’ dough, and I need a faster drying time.
My panel of judges have approved the recipe.
Here’s part of the test panel, relaxing on the couch.
They let us sit there, too, sometimes.

Shower Installation Blues

Last time we were in Ajo, my handyman couldn’t hook up the shower because of hardware problems. I’m not sure which kind of problems, but he’s the brains of this outfit anyway, I’m the looks. (LOL)
The bathroom lighting is dim in this picture, but here’s a ‘before’ pic.

Since then, he has torn out two separate loads to the dump from that tub surround.
The picture of the bare wall as it is now it posted below, but here is where he stopped after the first load to the dump.

Rain Pictures

Rainy season in other parts of the country, Alabama had torrential rains for days and I was jealous.
When it rained last time here (in Arizona) I took pictures, but none of them made me feel the excitement of actually being in the cloudburst and I was disappointed. The light was more glowing in real life, or something.

Ajo, Arizona cloudburst

So I called my photographer friend in Alabama to pick her brain on rain shots and heard all about the nice, humid, noisy rain and wind … which sounded kind of scary in places ….
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen rain like that. This Arizona cloudburst only lasted twenty minutes, but we got out and played in it. No sense wasting a perfectly good storm.

Sleepy Ajo Weekend

I couldn’t stay awake long enough to get much done this week end.
My darling got the tub surround cleared totally out, we went to the dump again.

I keep forgetting how much work it is, though, to schlep all the rubbish around. It’s good weight management, excercise is one of the best fat burners in the world.
It seemed to wear me out, though, I didn’t even paint. Next project will have to be heavy drapes on the bedroom windows, though, people have fire pits and have their neighbors over. It’s nice, but we crash early, like the old folk we are, and it was a little noisy.
Javelina tracks led down the street from the hillside to under our bedroom window at one point. No wonder the dogs were restless.
We’re building a fire pit next time.

Here’s another Happy Hound, Reddy Kilowatt, in Mom’s front yard in Ajo, AZ. When dogs play this hard they don’t ever need weight loss pills, but I watch their weight anyway.
I am working on a low-cal recipe for HappyHoundBiscuits.com, also frosting for decoration.
The frosting has to dry solid like the rest of the biscuit, but be tasty. Some ideas I have involve powdered milk and eggs.
I get the first blender for the project this weekend and start cooking for canines next week. I’m pretty stoked.
Stay tuned for pictures.

Today I am officially late on an assignment in Small Business. It’s the first time, and the teacher is notably relaxed about it. When he started collecting the papers I just panicked and pawed through my folder for Something.
Foolish Grasshopper, did you not mark down your deadlines? Have you learned nothing from the past?
the-ant-and-the-grasshopper-fable
I am not alone in that class, among chronic late-turners-in of homework. A lot of youngsters in there who are probably more interested in the best acne treatment than getting their papers turned in on time.
But the look on Mr. Medrano’s face was worth that famous thousand words. I really have done better in the past.
Well, my talented son is going to do the forum and the tri-fold for happyhoundbiscuits.com so we can pull my a55 out of the fire on this one.
Thank you, Porge.

Online University

Adults seeking higher education often find that their options are limited by their hectic schedules. Many turn to online education. I’ve found that online degree programs can be tougher than traditional learning programs. Consider yourself warned. If you think that you’re up for the challenge, then a fully accredited online university would be the best way to go.

Western Governors University comes highly recommended and they offer online degree programs that are flexible so that you can earn your degree on any schedule. Featured in Time Magazine and NBC Nightly News, they provide a cost effective alternative to traditional educational options for the working adult.

The website is very friendly to use and informative, too; it gives me added confidence that they know what they are professionals in regards effectively communicating ideas and knowledge via the internet.

Moving Day!

When we go down to Ajo this weekend, it will be to stay overnight.
That’s a big step ahead from where the house started.
We are taking beds and dog beds and dishes and dog dishes … a whole truck load.
We are in the process of prepping the floor for tile, we only have the one bedroom floor really cleaned, the one where we are sleeping. Soon we can put down tiles. Just not this time.
Dave’s going to work on the shower this time and I have painting and the kitchen cabinets to do. We’ll probably have to go to the VFW or Pugsie’s at some point.

Halloween

Did you have fun?
DearHeart and I stayed home like old folks. I was all ‘bah-humbug’ about it: Wanted to turn out the lights and draw the blinds. But the mister bought some candy and shut the dogs out, and I had to admit it was fun looking at the little critters. It wasn’t no gulf shores vacation, but we ended up having fun.
I was just about done, and thinking about a glass of wine, must have been about 8:30 or so, and here comes the neighborhood sweetie, my pal JJ, dressed like a ladybug. She walked down with her mom. I didn’t think to get a pic, but here’s a cute one of her.
