I am trying to come up with an idea for my small business development class. I also want to use that class for my Honors Project this term. (Worth over $300.00, and what student doesn’t need money?)
I had thought to do a small electronics store, but guys like these guys pretty much have the market cornered, what with the great prices they can offer.
Maybe thinking about a frozen dog food business, it would have to be very local, being perishable, but it’s something I could do well, and my dogs seem to like my recipes.

My beautiful new sewing machine uses a lot of top thread for take-up. I have to leave at least 4.5 inches so it won’t pull out and unthread itself on the first stitch. It likes 5.5 inches, but will work if I hold the end of the thread with 4.5. The bobbin thread I can cut as close as I like.
My solution: Make two of everything. That way I just start another seam without first cutting the thread and save tons of thread.
These two beach bags were the last project. I lined one and left the other one unlined. They are huge, but light, and fit the shoulder just right.

And most of yesterday, too. I’m about done with it.

a book bag and two beach bags
They are so serious. But I needed another of each, so now I have one and have some to share.
Someone mentioned that the book bags are pretty small, 10 x 9 x 2 inches, so I made a big one, 12 x 13 x 4. I don’t have much hope of lifting it if it’s full of books, but a guy might. It is still in progress, and sedately enough colored for a man.

Bag in Progress
I made a couple of the small ones which are just about right for one class-worth of books. Sometimes it’s just easier to keep everything for a particular class in a bag of its own.
These little purses were made awhile ago, but I got a request for more, so while I have the heavy material and zippers out I’ll make a few. It will be a nice break from the serious bags.

My new favorite, that is, Pirate Chains. I have reached the half-way level, or a little further, and have wasted lots and lots of time. The free play version does not save the game’s progress, so I start over every time. Okay, but I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. Here, try it yourself.
What is it about match three games that I like, they are so childish! When I figure that out I will be free of the obsession. At least that’s the theory, right?

My kids found a new auction to go to. They said it sucked so much. That’s because it’s 110 degrees out and the auction was mostly outside.
I was interested because they had Maricopa County classroom furniture posted to be auctioned August 1st.
Particularly the electric potter’s wheels. Here is the auction.
Then I talked to a friend of mine who actually helped with some of the potter’s wheels for auction last year at Glendale Community College and he said that the ones that were auctioned off most likely had a burned out motor or maybe just loose wiring, so you really don’t know if it’s an easy fix or a problem. I am not a mechanical genius, so I guess I’ll pass.
Getting excited about school (in a month), though, and all the time I get in the ceramics studio.

I was looking for cantenna parts, the kind or antenna you make out of a Pringles tube.
The parts were hard to find, even at Fry’s Electronics, but then when we did find the parts, they were priced a lot higher than I had remembered from when we tried this a couple of years ago.
So off to eBay … there we found a couple of great looking cantennas for around $30.00 when you count in the shipping. The best deal came with 9 feet of cable. Bonus!

Dave got the preliminary title search and it goes back to 1917 when the property was bought for $75.00 and sold less than a year later for $250.00. He says WWI was just gearing up and copper was in high demand, so Ajo would have been a boom town.
Here’s a pic of our new house, the real pic of the real house, the other pics are all other houses that we were interested in, but this is the one we actually got.

A very fine organization with offices in Portland, OR, New York, NY, and Buenas Aires, to name a few.
I am looking for an internship that will mean something and teach me a thing or two. This one looks good.
idealistas.org
Besides actually doing good things, this guy looks really goofy and just cracks me up. I might get to work with him, what a hoot that would be. Sigh … I just love fun people. …
The real, main page is here The other one above is a face book thing or a Utube.
But they have internships, and I think perhaps they have virtual internships, which is what I am looking for. I would be willing to go to Portland for awhile, but I need to go to school here, so… virtual.

The Ajo dog pound, county or whatever, has found a rescued Pomeranian for Mary. Mary is my 94-year-old friend in Rocky Point, Mexico.
She was in the hospital for a couple of months down there, and her two little baby pups (9 months) were not getting the care they needed. I am not in town very often, but when I was there and went to see the house and animals, their water was scummy and ants were swarming the food dish. Unacceptable. The pups were skinny and the rumor had it that Manny, who was being paid to take care of things, was trying to sell them on the beach to tourists. They were in heat, after Mary had paid Manny to have them ‘fixed’ which he obviously did not do. Anyway, I was going to ‘rescue’ them, so I took them back to Ajo with me for the night on the way back to home here in Phoenix.
Well, they got out and I couldn’t find them. Turns out, the people who found them gave them to the lady at the pound and she put an ad in the Ajo paper with their pictures, so the whole story that I made up for Mom came unraveled and the truth is out!!!!
But we are not telling Mary the true story because she will be heartbroken if she thinks she won’t have them back.
You can have health insurance, compare life insurance,
shop for dog insurance, but you can’t get broken heart insurance. So we are telling Mary that the dogs are with a snowbird back in Minnesota and will be home this Fall.
Meantime, I have a little Pom that looks like Mary’s favorite dog in the world, Zora, who died peacefully in her sleep of old age a year ago or so. When this Fall arrives, Mary will have the new Zora and may not grieve too much for the lost pups.
Tricky, yes, but who says morals are straight forward?
Us ladies and our dogs! What a scene. Here’s Mom and one of her gang.

They were great. Dave and I could see down to the city dump (where they were lighting the fireworks off) from Mom’s front gate. We had a real good view and they were great. It cools off pretty good there, so it was nice to sit out front in the night air.
One really funny part: buzzards and large crows live at the dump, you can see them all the time, and right at the beginning when the first fireworks went off, all these big dark shapes came winging out past our heads from the dump area. They were hauling! They were close enough to hear the air through their wings, and they went fast.
Another funny part was when one of the tables of fireworks (where they set them up in sets) tipped over and we could see the sparks and colors whizzing over against the ground. I hope nobody got hurt, but I bet they were scrambling.
We took Mom out to the ChuChu Club (American Social Club since 1974) and had a burrito and a beer. It was the special. We had been planning to go to the VFW later for ribs, but were too tired to go out in the evening. Besides, I wanted a drink by then and did not want to drive across town in any condition except sober.
We spent the next day measuring and working around our new place. That is going to be a lot of work, but we need fat burners, so looks like we are in for some extra exercise with our ‘hobby’ house. Pictures later, we’ll have the ‘before’ and ‘after’.

I have made about ten doll and baby quilts in the last couple of days. Trying to use up all of the leftover green patches. They are SOO cute!

quilt
Why didn’t I bring a pic of them? I don’t know. My signal has been absent lately at the house, so I am over at the library with my flash drive and this beautiful patchwork quilt is the only one I have a picture of. I will put in a pic of the baby quilts very soon.
I gave a couple of the darling little quilts away already, have plans for a couple of them, and the rest will go into the gift drawer for whoever needs a little giftie in the future.
Finally, I’m done with the green and ready to move on to my summer handbags. But first I want to rearrange the sewing room. My new sewing machine Brother CS 6000i has a power button so I don’t need the presser pedal to run it, that means I can locate the machine ANYWHERE I WANT IT. Total freedom.
I like freedom. Guess I’m just a spoiled American.
