I loved looking around the artist colony at the restored Curley School in Ajo, AZ the other day. The cheapest rent is $207 for a studio apartment plus about $60 electric. Phone and internet are high in Ajo, like $80, and not exactly speedy, but the art colony has set up a computer lab with ten or twenty ‘puters on line for use, so that’s a non-issue.
A really great web site http://www.isdanet.org/ to look at the set-up. I would consider it for a summer, maybe.
I have cut all my expenses, my car insurance rates, even pedicures. I am in dire need of a pedicure, but too cheap. I don’t want to have to go to work. I’ll have to break down one of these days, I know.
The pink quilt is looking good, I am attaching the front and back now, with just one layer of medium batting. I like the blankies to be easy to wash and dry so they get a lot of use.

Pink Baby Blanket
This has been changed since the pic. It now has narrow dark stripes down the middle parts instead of the wide ‘cross’ effect. It got to creeping me out, looking all Christian like that. It’s nicer now, I’ll take a pic soon and post it.

filled out all my forms today (I think) for Fall 09. I signed up for a couple of classes, need to add a couple more. Ceramics, of course, beginning algebra, and small business development. Still need to decide between digital photog and color. And add yoga.

beautiful ceramics
I’m looking forward to it, but now for the summer stretching away in front of me ….

Dave is rebuilding the back porch. I’d like to have shade across the whole south side of the house, but right now we have a space in the middle where the sun gets through. When he’s done rebuilding the porch, I was thinking of renting one of those pressure washers from home depot to clean off the tiles on the back porch… I probably will never get around to doing it, but the thought has crossed my mind.

Sammy and I are choosing classes for Fall term. She is concerned that she has to come up with some electives to graduate ASU, we suggested music, she plays the guitar, but maybe piano lessons this term. And get credits for it. She can’t decide.
She’s so serious that she has taken all solids up to now, her last term before graduate school. Not at all like me, I have to say.
No, I’ve been taking only two ‘solids’ each term. Next term it looks like it will be small business development and algebra. Beginning algebra for sure. Then I will take ceramics again because I’m hooked, and maybe an art class. I’m leaning toward Color. Some friends of mine who took it have said it turned out to be very important to developing their artistic eye, and that’s something I need. And it’s on all or any medium, and I want to get more into the tactile arts and away from computer arts for awhile. Then again, there’s a digital photography class that looks interesting, it might be good for developing YesterdayTodayPhoto.
I think I’ll use Yester…etc… for my class project in the small business development class. I’ll need to write the business plan this summer to be ready.

Today is Mary’s 94th birthday. She hasn’t been feeling so well, and had to spend a few days in the hospital down in Rocky Point last week, but she’s willing to party today.
I am unable to be there today, but plan to head out Monday if not sooner. We’ll have a second birthday party.

Mary
Mary doesn’t like this picture, but I do. I will take the camera next time I go and get some better. Last time I ran down there in the middle of finals weeks to see her when she first went in the hospital.
I have to say something about Rocky Point’s Santa Fe clinic; It’s fabulous! Mary was the only in-patient there, had all the nurses to herself, and they took such good care of her! For all her care for five or six days the bill came to just over $5,000 US dollars. Pretty reasonable.
But she’s out now and having a party as we speak. She’ll have the Mariachis playing, and has a keg of beer, bean dip, nachos, a veggie platter, nuts, iced tea and cake.
Nobody’s on a diet today. Tomorrow they can take the
pure ephedra and get back on the diet, but today they party down in Rocky Point.

The only thinking I have to do this weekend is to study a list of ceramic terms for a test Tuesday. I might make some flash cards, or get some of those compact flash cards to help me study.
Then summer looms ahead of me. I have a couple of quilts to finish, then I think I’ll reorganize my craft room before I start on the purple quilt. I have a baby quilt that needs to get done this next week for a friend of mine who’s going to see her new grand daughter in June.

Baby Girl's Quilt
The number two green quilt is almost done and will be fast to finish. I want to do a bunch of other crafts this summer, but that work room is one big mess.

I got my Honors Project done in the nick of time. I thought I had it done, turned it in to my prof and went off to Rocky Point to visit Mary in the hospital. I came back in time for the last macroeconomics class Wednesday night, checked my email and found that the prof was not happy at all about my honors project. He was right about everything, so I spent several hours Wed night and four or five hours Thursday, turned it in again with the deadline being today, Friday by five. Finally at 11:00 this morning he emailed be back that he would accept it as the final project. Then I had to get it in PDF form, take it to the printer, and make a CD and CD label. Paris did that for me and it turned out so great. I turned it in around 2:30 today.
That’s a whole grade point that I won’t lose and $350.00 for next term. WOO HOO!!!!
I have been so stressed with school and the trip to RP that I been breaking out in acne, looking for the best acne treatment, I think just being able to relax might do the trick.

I’m really making progress on the Honors Project for Ceramics. Guess I’d better be making progress, it’s due no later than next Friday.
Here’s where I have it, it’s a work in progress, so be patient.

Next week we get to Raku fire some stuff, I’ll do Dave’s mask, I don’t think I took a pic yet, but it’s got an awesome mustache and a squint. I’ve been working on some bunny shapes, like the native potters do, an oval outline with rabbit shapes drawn in. So I think I will scratch a scene on the mask like Mexican artists do for the tourist pieces, maybe a fish design, some cacti and bunnies on the hills between.
The part where you scratch through the slip will gather the smoke from Raku firing and become dark lines. Then you add whatever you have and it burns off, (macaroni, string, leaves wax copper wire, artificial sweetener, sugar, pills like Lipovox or ambien), it leaves different colors where it was touching. sometimes you get iridescence. Wrap it all up in aluminum foil and fire it until it glows, then put it in under a tub to cut off the oxygen until it cools.
I made a couple of pots for that and the mask.

I’m still high off of the visit I had with my cousins! Wish I had more visits with them to hope for, but we are pretty far apart geographically, and pretty busy.
Oh well, I can appreciate what I have, look at this picture of me and my cousins!

My Cousins
Aren’t they beautiful?
My final projects are almost all in, I only have the ceramics Honors project to finish. That one is almost done and due next Thursday. I am doing a web site and making some bricks to demonstrate how a kiln might be built using third-world methods and materials. I need to put a drawing of a plan on the site, but do not have enough
system memory to upload software just for that purpose.
I’ll probably do something in Illustrator and use it. Today. If I do it today I will be ahead of the game.
