Today was a pip!
School went really well. My assignments were all done and I was up to speed in Spanish class. Then when I got home I had a message from the mammogram folks, they want to look at the right breast again. So I go in Tuesday afternoon. They are going to do an ultrasound. I guess it’s more thorough. Hank the Cow Dog stepped on my right breast the other day while we were wrestling on the bed. IT HURT!!! But it should be okay by Tuesday. Good enough to smash it again if that’s what they want to do. I don’t think ultrasounds squeeze like mammograms do, but I don’t know.
Guess I could google it.
I been looking at female supplements lately, too. ephedra pills is a big thing on the web up in those sites, I thought they used ephedra substitutes these days, but it looks available.
Then my niece was down in Mesa and somehow the voice mail didn’t have her message on from yesterday (we had a power hiccup, because all the clocks were blinking). So I didn’t know where she was until today and they are leaving , probably already gone by now. No way for me to go see them and I guess they couldn’t take the time to drive by my house on their way out of town. Though you know they had to pass within a mile of my house. … I just cried. After i hung up of course. What a weird day.

So I found some creamy-colored business card stock the other day that I liked real well, I wasn’t cheap, but what the heck. Now I need to design my own logo. I will probably break down and print some off with just my name and email and number if I don’t get off the stick and come up with something soon.
I have labels for my clothing and quilts, but the business cards will have to be different since I will use them for all things, not just the fabric-goods design line.
Once I get the logo, I can order all sorts of promotional products. Here is a good place to start looking. Things like cups, t-shirts, pens. I think a t-shirt would be cool with Stewart Creations on it. I can take the shirt apart and embellish it like I do with lace or ruffles or cut sleeves. Yeah, that would be cool. I have a t-shirt design I am working on that’s SOOO funky! I’m putting regular cloth gores in it from the empire line down to the hem for an all-over flare and leaving the seams all outside for that funky look. Then I cut down the neckband and sleeves for even more funk. We’ll see how it goes, I have one prototype that I’m not 100% happy with, but working on another. i sure like embellishing things!

Finally, it is cool enough to put the top down on the Miata. I sure love winters in Arizona, summers I could do without, but now we have a good six months of wonderful weather here. I took the dogs for a long walk today up the mountain preserve, didn’t even have to get out before dawn. Didn’t even have to carry a gallon of water. We had a really good time.
It’s funny that all the winter clothes in Walmart and Target are now on the shelves. I take advantage of this by buying up the discounted summer threads. You know we wear shorts and flipflops all winter here, so this is the time of year to shop. I stock up for me and Mom every Fall. I love the 70% off racks, but I will even shop the 30% off racks, and sometimes a real bargain will be stuck up in there. I think I’ll go out again today, still need some more clam diggers for school. Shorts to walk the dogs, but longer pants for formal events like school.
The sports equipment is changing, too, try to find a baseball bat in the stores. You’ll have to wait until spring for that. I bet you could find ice skates and mittens aplenty, though. Haven’t looked for that.

my photoshop project
I finally made a small enough copy of the latest project to upload here. I ended up making the ‘Moon Silk’ letters silver before I turned it in. I used a light part of the bottle in the eyedropper for color, added a nice drop shadow on the letters and it looks great. Oh, and at the last minute I put small script ‘eau de parfum’ curved to fit the lable on the right bottom.
I had great fun. I have a lot of fun with all the art classes.
We have decided to go to Mom’s in Rocky Point for Thanksgiving, we won’t be here to do our shopping on that “black friday” I prefer Cyber Monday anyhow. The deals I have found on previous Thanksgiving “black friday” haven’t really been that great. I mostly stick to the internet, and count on chance encounters with great deasl while I’m just out shopping in general. You know, you find something that just screams “Aunt Nete for Christmas!” and it’s really only Halloween? I’m like that.

I get to do some advertisements for my photoshop mid-term project. I was vacillating between watches and perfume. I like the look of the ads for some e-commerce sites , and thought to emulate one of those, but found some great pictures of silk material and decided to use it as background for fictional perfume. poster looks great. I will make several more, so I can turn in a batch of three ads.
School isn’t really getting easier, but it’s getting incredibly fun. I find that I am throwing myself into the assignments so thoroughly that it’s just totally entertaining. What a bonus.
Spanish is the only one I’m not really having fun with, but I started a conversation group, and that looks to be fun, twice a week. Maybe I will learn the stuff. Not getting the best grade in that one. I’m a little worried that I might lose my HONORS status there, but if I can get a ‘B’ I can maintain the 3.75 that I need for the money. 3.5 will keep me in Honors, but not in the extra money. 3.5 will still get me other added scholarships, though.

I’m doing a report for Humanities class on a sonia nazario book, Enrique’s Journey, It’s all marked up now, for speech pauses, etc, so I won’t copy it into this post, but the gist is, a honduran boy of 15 years old makes his perilous way to the United States to find his mother who deserted the family ten years before to seek a ‘better life’ in america.
This subject really pisses me off. and of course I express this in my presentation. The class is full of idealistic young folk, so I guess we’ll see what kind of reception I get after my delivery Monday.
I did some research into ways to help central and southern american citizens to make them more prosperous so maybe they will stay in their own countries.
Kiva.org does micro-loans which seem to work pretty well, they’ve been doing it all over the world for awhile, now. They started in Africa, and have had great success. Nobody’s buying Manolo Blahnik shoes, but they’re feeding their families.
There is also a couple of groups that teach Hondurans and Central Americans to grow their own veggies in their back yards. Any of this helps raise the quality of life down there and keeps the desperation to a minimum. It takes a pretty desperate person to travel 1800 miles basically on foot with no money in their pockets and only the clothes on their backs.
It must be pretty desperate down in there, because they are streaming across our borders by the thousands every year.

egg cartons
When I google Norman Pedersen I get some physics and chemistry guys. His name seems to be hooked up with money and politics in California, too. But it is not the same Norman A. Pedersen. Not the same at all.
First Friday downtown Phoenix was a blast!! It was full of vendors with wonderful stuff. Mostly beads, jewelry, paintings and artsy crafts, but there were also scented candles, lotions, acne cures and time-share marketing sign-ups.
The galleries and shoppes were open and theres was mucis and dancers on every corner.
I know Dave would have loved it, he said we need to go next time and take Sammie. I agree.
Norm’s show was a little sad, the Space 55 Gallery is a little off the beaten path, we parked there and walked a block north to get to the first action, so it’s not far off, but the gallery is not real well lit up, looks kind of light industrial outside, it needs a catchy marquee I think. There was one gallery that had bicycle spokes and sprockets welded into a fence surrounding the front entrance, old, cute bikes on the top and hanging from the porch. It was lit up and very busy. You can’t really see Space 55 from the street. I mean it’s right on the street, but looks like a warehouse or something, not like a gallery/theater. You could walk right by and not even know something was going on in there.
Oh well, not my business, and Norm is thrilled. I’m so happy he’s got this going on. Maybe he will meet someone who can do his pictures justice, it’s for sure he won’t meet anyone sitting in his house.
I’m starting another batch of papier mache, this time I think to add some brown cardboard and get a golden color.

so I think I’ll go to ‘first Fridays’ with some pals this weekend and stop in to see Norm’s show at Space 55 gallery. It’s downtown Phoenix and First Fridays is the big night for them.
Actually, they have live theater every weekend night at 636 E Pierce. It’s just south of Roosevelt on 7th Street. There is a coffee house at the same location called 7th Street Cafe. It’s quite a find, gallery, theater and coffee. very funky atmosphere.
Last week I was so tired from setting things up for Norm along with the school stress, that I didn’t well sleep for a couple of nights in a row. A friend gave me some sleeping pills she uses, she has a lot of pain and takes pain pills and these little blue things regularly for her health problems, so she said she takes two or three, I though ok I’ll take two and see how it goes.
I slept 15 hours!!!! and the whole next day, Saturday, I was sleepy, too. Took two long naps and still slept hard on Saturday night. Pretty funny. Just the opposite from taking something like diet pills.
I heard about alli diet pills , seems they work real well to keep you from being hungry without causing jitters. Something to look into if I ever decide to get rid of all this extra weight.
I started seeing a tutor for Spanish today. I can get free tutoring at school, and a gal in my class wants to get together to practice conversation with me, too. Maybe I can actually catch on. Hope so, I need the grade.
