cattle dog love

looking back on this month i see that i have been giving out a lot of Reddy Kilowatt and not enough of Lur MacKenzie.
He is such a sweet baby. He has the prettiest face of all of them all. He’s got that two-tone cattle dog eye patch face.
okay, here’s another picture of him.
He’s starting to put on some weight. he’d lost some when he went to the home that didn’t work out. these things are hard on puppies. He came back skinny and spooked. He’s just now getting over the flinch when you put your hand to his face for a pet. it breaks my heart because he was the alpha pup when he left, and the broadest in the chest, starting to put on some chunkiness. now he’s the slender and small one.
I’m told i was too harsh on people who think i may be writing about them when i call someone stupid if they can’t figure out how to make their puppy comfortable. it’s not directed to anybody in particular, just in general, people who don’t think out how to make their dog happy to behave nicely are just one of those things i can’t abide by. dogs really try to make it easy. they just want to behave, all we gotta figure out is how to let them know what we want.
so, i admit i’m a little tough on people, and probably too soft on dogs. just the way i am.
go get yourself your own blog is what i say.

pictures of dogs

honey-pie took new pics of the pups this morning. then he took the camera to work. but i know i’ll get hold of the pictures tonight.
these little cattle dogs are so beautiful! i wish they’d stay this size, 15-20 pounds. they are so graceful and long-legged, like little colts. they are real gentle with their paws and mouths. i don’t think i ever had such gentle pups. wish i could keep them all.
soon as school gets over i will really look for spots to advertise. we are set up on craig’s list, hooblie, and seems like some others.
another week for school. i decided to take some summer classes, maricopa county will pay for them if i take 6 credits. WooHoo! so i guess i can’t turn down that offer, it might not be there next time i want it.
it’s because i’m old AND poor. next year i’ll probably still be old, but i might not be poor.
i am going to attach a flash clip to test it out. this is from an old assignment, but i want to incorporate it into a current project.
curious how it will act.
nope, couldn’t do it with a .swf
so i’ll put it on a webpage and put the link here…. soon, my pretties…..

Recipe for dog food in a crockpot

1 1/2 to 2 lb. chicken necks
1/2 to 1 lb. chicken, beef or pork livers
1 to 2 c. rice
several carrots
water to fill

Line crockpot bottom with carrots, add meat, pour rice over and fill close to top with water.
Set on low for eight or ten hours or high for four to six hours. Cool completely and store in refrigerator.

Australian Cattle Dogs love it mixed with a good-quality kibble. We use Canidae because there are no mystery ingredients and NO GLUTEN and no glutinized products.

all the little dogs

We got Reddy and Lur back….. stupid people don’t know that
1. you need to be home for the first few days you get a new dog, not on a business trip to chicago.
2. dogs don’t immediately accept every new change you throw at them (for instance a day care center at your home with no place for the dog to hang out while it’s going on)
2. leave a puppy outside all day and night alone and he’s bound to bark.

I am just glad that we got them back from those stupid people. I do wish I’d had a chance to train the people, Lur’s cituation might have had a better outcome, except i really believe that he wanted the dog but she did not. that won’t work. but the rednecks who had Reddy probably couldn’t be educated.
so we have 6 dogs again. they are all really well-behaved, and surprisingly calm, but we have Reddy and Lur in school anyway. first class starts Saturday. posting more ads.

Reddy found a Home of His Own

We sold Reddy the other day. The people came over looking for a blue, but the guy said he needed a GUY dog, and Reddy was giving them and their dog enough grief that he looked pretty macho. He had his hair all up in that sharp mohawk they get. All pointy ridge down his back. Looks really prehistoric.
Reddy doesn’t like strangers and his dingo was showing. The guy really took to him.
The lady got Nununda to flirt with her, but this was the guy’s dog. Her dog was the 3-yr old blue female they had. Sweet face, like Annie Oakley (Red’s mom), and pretty brown points. She ignored Reddy until she had to teach him some manners in order to keep playing frisby, he was nipping at her when she ran by. She was a great frisby dog, now smart little Reddy gets to learn frisby.
So the guy took him, they were pals by the time they left, but I lay awake all night worrying. They’d indicated that no dogs were going to sleep with them, and I know that Reddy likes to cuddle all night, so I worried. Even misted over a couple of times, there in the dark in this big old empty bed. Only my sweetie and me and four dogs in there now. ONLY.
So when I talked to Bernie, Reddy’s new mom, she said that at bedtime she looked outside and saw poor Reddy hunched over in a corner of the yard, shivering with fear. (Couldn’t be from the cold, it’s been real warm here.)
So long story short, Reddy slept in their bed all night and probably will from now on. His new daddy was curled around Reddy by morning.
Well, that just made me feel a lot better, and I slept good last night.
I finished the Reddy poster. I am looking for some faux magazine paper to print it on. I would like to enter it in the art thingy at school (where there will be cash prizes!).
Only problem, I’m not sure if it’s really art. A lot of times I figure if I could make it, it can’t be ‘real’ art. Maybe I’ll ask a teacher.

Reddy Kilowatt loves the wading pool

My Dear One got the pump working in the pond this weekend, and the dogs love it!!

There’s a lot of power, we could jet a fountain way up there. For now he has it gushing down out of a PVC pipe, but there is talk of flagstones and tinkly steps for the rushing water.
The dogs will like that, too.

hard-boiled eggs for dogs… Frozen !!

Oh they had fun today with their frozen hard-boiled eggs. I know I shouldn’t complain, but it’s been a little hot out here lately. So I gave the dogs an egg-sicle.
Annie, Reddy and Nununda took theirs off to different corners of the patio (Reddy likes to sit out on top of the aloe-vera, he’s got it all softened and broke down) and held the egg between paws. The egg was hard as a rock, but in about 10 minutes (TEN minutes of silence from them! WOW) I looked and saw that they’d each got about half way through the egg, tasty yolk exposed.
I got another ten minutes of peace.
Fay and Hank mostly licked theirs, rolling it around the floor. I had to track down Fay’s when she showed up without it after a minute or two. She’d lost it under the desk. I had visions of finding a rotten egg under the furniture next month. Hmm, there’s the downside, I guess.
I’ll post this now, but I’ll come back in a minute, I have some pictures we took tonite.

Recipes for Dogs

Here is a Picture of Buttercup

Another recipe for dogs:

1/4 lb or so (several) carrots
1 or 2 cups split peas, rice, or beans
2 or 3 lbs meat
water

Put it all in a large crock pot and cook for several hours. Be sure to check the juice level, as somehow, it seems to boil over. Where does the extra liquid come from? Anyway, dogs like the juice that I spoon out over their kibble.
Today we are using a mix of split peas and rice with a pork roast that we found on sale. Pork can make for loose stools and should be fed in small amounts until your sure, so use more rice and beans with pork.

I always lay the carrots on the bottom and put the meat in next with the rice and beans over the top which I wash down with water. Fill to an inch or two from the top.

Lur found a good home the other night. Seems they wanted more of a firecracker personality than Reddy is, so they fell for Lur. They have renamed him to Chase, which is a very good name for him. He got to meet some cows yesterday, I bet he had a ball.

Tomorrow we get to introduce our foundling, Buttercup, to her (maybe) new owner and his cattle dog. We turned the adoption of Buttercup over to New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue here in Phoenix, and they have a great advertising network. We’ve had her for several months and have not had luck placing her yet.
I’m going to take Nununda along because we are meeting at a cattle dog agility class in Tempe, and I want her to take a look at that. She is long-legged and smart with an even temper, I think she’d do real well.

Hard Boiled Eggs for Dogs

We might sell Reddy tonite. Someone is coming to look at the pups and I just think it might be Reddy Kilowatt Somehow i have a feeling that it’s Reddy they want.
It’s a joy having the pups for so long, four months now, but I got really attached to each of the three that we have had for the longest time. It’s fun, but it’s a lot of work, too. I hope these guys find their own home soon.
You should see them with their hard-boiled eggs. Too funny!
Lur tries to roll a couple around in a bunch so he can guard them. I sometimes have to toss an extra one out so everyone gets at least one. It’s surprising that there’s so little egg shell left over, they pretty much eat it all.
The eggshell is good for them, basically calcium.
I refrigerate over night, haven’t tried freezing, someone suggested that and it sounded like a real good idea. Maybe for a summer treat.
This is probably the best batch of pups ever. Great personalities.
Last night Reddy got under the covers, kinda by accident. I toss the blankies off a lot… power surges, you know. Anyway, he was sleeping next to me, and unexpectedly somehow found himself covered by blankets, and I felt his tail wag…thump, thump, thump.
Funny little guy.
