My Student loan is on the way

I forgot to tell you that the student loan is for sure going to be here the middle of September. Of course, I’m not naive, I’m not spending it yet. Chickens and hatches and all that, don’t ya know, but it will be nice to pay my daughter-in-law for this neat computer which is large enough to hold all the software I need for school. And an occasional tank of gas will be nice, too.
I found one of my books at half.com It was the fifty dollar one, and I got it for about $20.00. It hasn’t got here yet, seven days later, but I’m sure it will. They had two of the others for a good price, too, but I waited too long and didn’t have time to order and have them mailed. This Flash 8 animation class doesn’t get down to using the book for a couple more weeks, so I should be fine on that book.
I have one of the scholarship essays about ready to go and another in the works. I found these on fastweb.com and lots more. There are some that I am not remotely qualified to try for, but a few in my range. There are arts and essays both. You should go there if you’re in school. It’s free money!!! Boy I like free money. Even the chance of getting some thrills me.

school’s fun!

There’s one class that’s hard, though, and I think I’m going to need help.
The ADOBE PHOTOSHOP is a blast, I haven’t started the Adobe Illustrator yet, but if i can afford the software for at home, I don’t worry.
The hard one is the html class. Not so much the coding part, we haven’t got to that yet. No, the part that gets me is that the teacher, let’s call him Tim, wants to make sure we all can save our work in a particular place on the school’s drives and folders, and he needs us to be able to do it the REAL way. None of this click and drag stuff. And to make sure we do it right, we have to paste printscreens of the activity in various stages.
This stymies me. Why is this all so hard for me? I have surfed and cruised the web for decades now, been all over the game pages and the ebay/craig’s list, have regular pals in chats and boards, and even know the difference. But this document manipulation stuff just throws me. So my son, the orginator of this particular blog, is going to come over for dinner this weekend and try to help me. Otherwise I will just have to get some extra time with Tim, the teacher.

Student Loan

BORROWING MONEY
My PELL grant came in and wasn’t quite enough to cover tuition, and i’ll need books, of course. so i applied for a student loan. I think i said this before, but will say it again.
after i’m done with school this time i will be eligible to consolidate my student loans at a nice low interest rate.
so i borrowed 1500 dollars, hope it gets me through the next two semesters anyway. i should be able to get a job in web design by then, or something else might come along.
the best way to get your finances together is simply to visit the financial aid office at the school you think you might want to go to. they are so helpful. there are a lot of grants out there.

SCHOLARSHIPS
i found a neat place that has bunch of scholarships http://www.fastweb.com
so i am writing essays right now for deadlines. they give lots of time to finish. hope i get some, it’s free money that never needs paying back. the best kind.
there are also some artwork scholarships, but i’m more of a writer.

my loan won’t be here in time for books, so the school gave me a voucher for books from the bookstore. i had thought i could get the text books cheaper at ebay, but there didn’t seem to be any deals that beat the college bookstore for used books (counting shipping).
school starts next monday, i’m getting excited.
went on campus and found the buildings today while i visited the bookstore.
thanks for reading and see you next time.

PELL grant money!!

I got most of the tuition funded by PELL grant. YIPEE!! today i need to pop in to school and apply for a student loan (to add to my previous one hanging around from the stone-age) to make up the difference and to buy books. did most of the application process online, but need to sign some stuff.
i qualified for PELL because i made very little money last year as a temp for the title/escrow business…. tied directly to the housing market, which is pretty dead right now. really the only thing going on in title/escrow is foreclosures, but since all the title offices have consolidated and laid off, there won’t be much demand for temps these days. Alas, the heyday is over. predictions point to a two year recovery cycle and i just can’t wait that long for another paycheck.
luckily my monthly nut is small, I live with my gainfully employed homeowner main squeeze, my sweet little MIATA is paid for and insurance is low for an old geezer like me who drives like a granny. I did get two photo-radar speeding tickets last month on the 101 in Scottsdale, so we’ll see how much that jacks up the insurance.
I have to say, that Miata is a lot of fun, tho, i would recommend it for any commuter. Very reliable, great gas mileage and sweet in traffic. i get 27 to 30 mpg in town. on a trip i get like 34+. WOW
it kinda tires me out driving on long trips, though, a lot of steering and you feel the road. ‘course I’m like, OLD, but i absolutely LOVE it on the freeways and streets.

New Blogger

Back to school at my age!!!
I just all of a sudden need to learn how to use the WEB TOOLS. So why not get a degree?
I’ll let you know how it goes.
So far i have signed up for classes at Glendale Community College and applied for loans and grants. I have been assured by all the college people that I am IN!!
I hope to finish before I turn sixty (60), but I will have to hurry.
It’s a little scary, all the kids I’ll be in class with already know this stuff.
Wish me well, it’s an adventure I’m on.
